Shivers

Intro

The Problem

While many people experience nightmares, there isn’t a lot of physical media out there that normalizes our fears. Shivers hopes to be a personal and darkly humorous magazine that can make people feel less alone in their fears.

Solution

To capture the transitional states of consciousness that Shivers seeks to represent, the magazine used DALL-E to create visual images. Although DALL-E struggled to generate realistic photos at the time, the resulting unusual images ended up complementing the magazine's tone perfectly. All of the copy is created from old journal entries of my nightmares.

In order to complete this magazine in a timely manner, a library of visual cues was created. A range of “pure” to “expressive” was created as a guideline to make sure the spreads could be varied, but would still family together well.
